Zach Ertz Breaks Jason Witten's Single-season Tight End Reception Record

Zach Ertz now has more catches in a season than any other tight end in NFL history.

After tying Jason Witten's record of 110, Ertz has now broken the record in the second half of the Eagles' 32-30 win over the Texans (see Roob's observations). He finished 12 for 110 and two touchdowns and has 113 receptions on the season. He passed Tony Gonzalez for second earlier in the game.

Ertz came into today's game with 101 catches for 1,038 yards and six touchdowns. He was just named to his second consecutive Pro Bowl last week.

Here's a look at the all-time single season leaders in receptions for tight ends:

Zach Ertz (2018) … 111 and counting
Jason Witten (2012) … 110
Tony Gonzalez (2004) … 102
Dallas Clark (2009) … 100
Tony Gonzalez (2007) … 99
Jimmy Graham (2011) … 99
Ben Coates (1994) … 96
Tony Gonzalez (2008) … 96
Jason Witten (2007) … 96
Todd Christensen (1986) … 95

Ertz already caught a touchdown in the first half. He has said all season that he doesn't care about individual statistics if the team isn't winning. But he has put together one of the greatest seasons in NFL history. What he's been able to do is remarkable.
