Snap Counts: Jalen Mills Returns to Slot Corner Spot

Against Washington and shifty slot receiver Jamison Crowder, Eagles rookie cornerback Jalen Mills returned to the nickel corner position in Sunday's 27-22 loss at the Linc.

In the time since Ron Brooks went down, Malcolm Jenkins has primarily been the team's slot corner, which meant bringing Jaylen Watkins off the bench. But in the Cowboys game (against shifty Cole Beasley) and now against Washington and Crowder, the slot corner job belonged to Mills.

Mills played 40 of 48 snaps on Sunday afternoon. Linebacker Mychal Kendricks played the other eight snaps when the Eagles were in base. Watkins played just two.

Malcolm Jenkins and Rodney McLeod played all 48 defensive snaps, followed by Leodis McKelvin, Nolan Carroll and Nigel Bradham, who each played 46.

The Eagles used a five-man rotation at defensive end on Sunday. Brandon Graham got the most snaps at 33, followed by Connor Barwin (25), Vinny Curry (15), Marcus Smith (12) and Steven Means (11).

On offense, the entire starting offensive line played 47 of 78 snaps together before Allen Barbre went down. Matt Tobin finished the game at right tackle, played the rest of the 31 snaps.

Jordan Matthews led the way for receivers, playing 76 of 78 snaps, followed by Nelson Agholor (68). Paul Turner played 31 snaps and Bryce Treggs, just three.

Like Doug Pederson said, the Eagles used their tight ends a lot in the passing game. Zach Ertz played 67 snaps, Trey Burton got 37 and Brent Celek played 30 before leaving with a stinger.

In his return, Ryan Mathews played 39 snaps, the most of the running backs. Darren Sproles played 30 before his injury and Wendell Smallwood got nine. Kenjon Barner was not active for the first time this season.
