Eagles Backup QB Sudfield Breaks Wrist

Eagles backup quarterback Nate Sudfeld suffered a big injury, breaking his wrist in Thursday’s preseason opener. Fans and the team are re-evaluating what this means for the team. (Published Friday, Aug. 9, 2019)

Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback Nate Sudfeld will be out at least two months after breaking his wrist during Thursday night's preseason game against the Titans, according to NBC Sports Philadelphia reporter John Clark.

Sudfeld will undergo surgery on Friday. The team also expects him to return at some point during the regular season.

Sudfeld had an air cast on his left arm as he was driven into the locker room at halftime of Thursday night's preseason game against the Titans.

With under 30 seconds left in the first half, Sudfeld was driven into the ground and injured his left arm. Isaiah Mack was called for roughing the passer on the play. It appeared the backup quarterback braced for impact and hurt his left wrist.

On the ground, Sudfeld immediately grabbed that left wrist in pain.

After leaving the field, Sudfeld went into the blue medical tent and veteran Cody Kessler replaced him to finish the first half.

Since Super Bowl hero Nick Foles left in free agency this offseason, Sudfeld became the Eagles' backup quarterback behind Carson Wentz. We expected to see a lot of him this preseason, but now the Eagles will be without him for a while. With Wentz's injury history, Sudfeld is considered by many to be a key player for the upcoming season.

Entering his fourth NFL season, Sudfeld was having a good night before the injury. He completed 10 of 18 passes for 177 yards and one touchdown, with a passer rating of 107.9.
