NFL Notes: Ex-Pro Bowl RB Arian Foster to Sign With Dolphins

MIAMI -- A person familiar with the situation says four-time Pro Bowl running back Arian Foster has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins.

The person confirmed the deal to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Monday because it had not been signed.

Foster, who spent the past seven years with the Houston Texans, is trying to come back from a torn Achilles tendon that ended his 2015 season in late October. The injury happened against the Dolphins in Miami.

The Dolphins were looking to add depth at running back after losing Lamar Miller to the Texans in free agency. Jay Ajayi is expected to start after rushing for 187 yards as a rookie last year (see full story).

NFL to test computer chips in footballs in preseason
NEW YORK -- The NFL will test computer chips in footballs this preseason to determine how well the balls perform, particularly in the kicking game.

Data collected from the chips also could help with officiating in the future, including goal-line and short-yardage plays.

As part of the league's Next Gen Stats program, the competition committee will review results for potential uses of the data collected. Such information could wind up being part of Thursday night NFL telecasts this season.

Included among the data that will be collected is how far the ball travels on a particular play, and the ball's proximity to the goal posts on a field goal or extra point. Such information can be used in determining if the distance between uprights needs to be shortened.
