Doug Pederson, the Eagles' coaches and their doctors are expected to make a decision Friday as to whether or not Carson Wentz will start Week 1 this coming Thursday night.
Lane Johnson has his opinion.
"[Wentz] looks ready to me," Johnson said. "I saw him throw a ball a couple weeks ago about 65 yards, so he looks about as impressive as I've seen."
So … would he be surprised if Wentz isn't the starter on Thursday night?
"Kinda," the right tackle said, "the way I'm feeling."
Of course, Johnson isn't a doctor and he's not a coach and he isn't Wentz, but he has seen him out at practice the last few weeks. Wentz, who is recovering from a torn ACL and LCL he suffered on Dec. 10, returned to 11-on-11 drills a couple weeks ago and has been splitting first-team reps with Nick Foles.
Whoever the starter is going to be on Thursday night will get all the first-team reps this week in practice.

It's easy to see why Johnson thinks Wentz is going to be ready. The franchise quarterback has looked impressive recently, including on Thursday night before the game.

While Pederson previously said the decision will be made on Friday, he isn't in a hurry to announce that decision. He'd prefer it doesn't get announced until 90 minutes before the game, but that's not going to happen.
After Thursday's 10-9 win over the Jets in the preseason finale (see Roob's 10 observations), Pederson was asked if a decision had been made.
"It's not Friday yet," Pederson said. "We don't have to make that decision right now. We still have some time before we hit the practice field again and go from there. We will have a conversation on it, though."
