Gunn-On-One: Chris Long Not Giving Up on Eagles' Season Just Yet

Eagles defensive end Chris Long is just one of four players in NFL history to win back-to-back Super Bowls with two different teams.

This season is not what Long was expecting. The 11-year veteran is this week's Gunn-on-One subject.

Gunn: Describe to me what is going on with this team right now?

Long: It's hard when you come off last year when, at times, we played outside of ourselves. I mean, we made all the plays, and we got a lot of breaks, but this year, we're not able to thus far overcome some of those bad breaks, and we haven't made some of those plays. I think its a combination of things. Football is the ultimate team sport so there's so many facets to the game and the problem is some people want to compartmentalize and make it simple. They're fixable things, some of them more than others, and we just have to keep chipping away. We got a lot of football left, but the hour is getting late.

Gunn: This team is in desperation mode right now. You've played on some bad teams in your career. How closely will you watch body language in practice and attitudes in meeting rooms?

Long: I think you can watch that stuff, but it's easy to overanalyze those things because you let something slide when you're winning and notice it more when you're losing. I think what wins you games is execution, playing good football and preparing. Players trusting the scheme and coaches coaching the scheme and sometimes I think when you fall on hard times as a team, people reach for a bunch of intangible reasons. I watch for body language. I'm always going to bring a lot of energy. I don't know of any other way to play. So to think that anybody in this locker room is going to mail it in when quite frankly we still have a shot, that's not the makeup of this team.
