Eagles Stock Up, Stock Down Before Preseason Games

We're about to learn a lot more about the Eagles over the next four weeks as they play out their four-game preseason schedule.

Those preseason games will help determine the roster and the depth chart, but we're already off to a good start after 11 days of training camp.

Here are three "stock up" players and three "stock down" after the first three rounds of training camp:

Stock up

Matt Pryor
Normally, the training camp darling is a wide receiver like Na Brown or Paul Turner. This year, weirdly enough, it's Pryor. But I don't want to sell him short, because the big offensive lineman seems like the real deal. Pryor is a sixth-round pick out of TCU and offers Eagles the kind of versatility they love; he can play OG and OT. Pryor has spent most of his time at guard and he looks great there, despite his height (6-7).

Watching Pryor during 1-on-1 drills between DL and OL has become my favorite pastime this summer. He's been shutting down the rushers he faces all summer. The Eagles might have gotten a real steal.

Josh Adams
We didn't get to see Adams at all in the spring with a stress fracture in his foot and when he missed a day of training camp, I thought we were never going to really get to see him. But Adams has been back on the practice field and has looked really good. He's a high runner, but when he sees the hole, he can hit it hard. Not perfect, but he's talented.

That fourth running back spot isn't locked in just yet. We know Jay Ajayi, Darren Sproles and Corey Clement are on the roster. After that, the battle is between Donnel Pumphrey, Wendell Smallwood, Matt Jones and Adams. Don't count out the rookie just yet.

Destiny Vaeao
All training camp, I've been waiting to see Haloti Ngata take over as the first-team defensive tackle next to Fletcher Cox. Hasn't happened. Tim Jernigan is still on NFI with that back injury and it seems like he won't be ready for the start of the season. So Vaeao is in line to be a starter.

The undrafted DT, entering his third year, is finally healthy after a fractured wrist left him playing most of last season with a cast. It's tough for DTs to flash during practice, but in some rare tackling periods he's looked good and has also been able to show up in 1-on-1s.

Stock down

Corey Nelson
I haven't seen Nelson do anything bad during training camp. I haven't seen him do anything. The veteran special teamer came to Philly to compete for that weakside linebacker job, and after Mychal Kendricks was cut, he looked like the favorite. But he clearly isn't. In fact, he is behind Nate Gerry and Kamu Grugier-Hill for that spot.

At this point, it seems like we're past wondering if Nelson will win the starting job. It's time to wonder if he's even going to make the team.

Isaac Seumalo
The Eagles are finally playing Seumalo at backup center and it isn't going well. The former third-round pick has had consistent problems snapping the ball. He keeps snapping it over the head of Nate Sudfeld, which is almost impressive, considering Sudfeld is 6-6 with long arms. Crazy to think that this time last year, Seumalo was the Eagles' starting left guard and now is in danger of losing his roster spot.

The Eagles really like Seumalo's versatility; he can play all five positions on the offensive line. But what good is that versatility if he isn't good at any of those positions? I'm curious to see what happens with Seumalo.

Chance Warmack
Remember when some folks thought Jeff Stoutland would be able to get Warmack back to the player he was at Alabama, when he became a top-10 draft pick. Well, that's hasn't happened. It's a shame too, because Warmack has some power, but it's never going the right way.

Watching the 1-on-1s this summer hasn't been pretty for Warmack. The biggest problem for Warmack is that he is just a guard and doesn't offer versatility. Another problem for him is that Pryor looks ready to take his backup spot.
