Eagles Sign Veteran Offensive Tackle Will Beatty

The Eagles added another veteran depth piece as they make a playoff push over the last seven games.

A day after signing linebacker Dannell Ellerbe, the Eagles are back at it again. This time, they signed veteran offensive tackle Will Beatty to a one-year contract.

Beatty, 32, hasn't played at all this season after playing in just six games in 2016. He missed the entire 2015 season with a torn pec.

Beatty was a second-round pick of the Giants out of UConn and played all seven of his NFL seasons with the Giants. He's played 88 career games with 63 starts.

After Jason Peters went down for the season with a torn Achilles, the Eagles kept Lane Johnson at right tackle and inserted Halapoulivaati Vaitai at left tackle. Johnson has continued to play at a Pro Bowl level, while Big V has been a pleasant surprise since Peters' injury.

Big V has played very well, so this move shouldn't supplant Vaitai as the starter, but it will offer the Eagles some more reliable tackle depth.

Second-year player Isaac Seumalo has been the backup swing tackle since the injury and the Eagles brought back Taylor Hart after the injury for some more insurance. Hart was waived to make room for Beatty. Hart is a former defensive tackle who has never played an offensive snap in the NFL.
