Eagles Select OL Isaac Seumalo in 3rd Round With 79th Overall Pick

The Eagles took their future franchise quarterback on Thursday.

On Friday, they took someone they hope can protect him for years to come.

With the 79th overall pick, the Eagles took offensive lineman Isaac Seumalo from Oregon State. Seumalo is 6-foot-4, 303 pounds (see bio).

Seumalo, 22, has some versatility. In college, he played four of the five positions on the offensive line.

He's the first offensive lineman the Eagles have drafted since Lane Johnson was taken fourth overall in 2013 out of Oklahoma. Vice president of football operations Howie Roseman previously spoke this offseason about the importance of the Eagles getting back to drafting offensive linemen, something that they did very successfully during the 14 years under Andy Reid.

Seumalo is the second Eagles' selection after they took quarterback Carson Wentz out of North Dakota State with the second overall pick.

The Eagles still have five more picks, but don't have one until the fifth round on Saturday. They have two fifth-rounders, one sixth-rounder and two seventh-rounders.
