Eagles Release Reserve Jerome Couplin III, Freddie Martino

Days after the draft concluded, the Eagles released reserve safety Jerome Couplin III and wide receiver Freddie Martino on Monday.

The Eagles signed Couplin off the Lions' practice squad during the 2014 season. He didn't play for the Eagles that year, but in 2015 he played in eight games, mostly on special teams.

Couplin was an undrafted free agent out of William & Mary in 2014, after leading his college team in tackles in 2013.

Couplin, 24, was a solid special teams contributor for the Eagles in 2015, but suffered a shoulder injury in November and was put on IR on Nov. 20.

Without Couplin, the Eagles still have plenty of depth in the secondary. After Couplin's release, the Eagles have 15 defensive backs, not including any undrafted free agents they have or will sign.

Martino, 24, spent most of the 2015 season on the Eagles' practice squad.
