Eagles Begin Offseason Program Today With Phase 1

The Eagles' offseason workout schedule kicks off this morning at the NovaCare Complex, but what the players are doing on Monday won't actually look like football.

No, instead, it's just Phase One of the offseason program, as set forth by the 2011 CBA.

Finally, coaches are allowed to talk football and scheme with players and strength and conditioning coaches are allowed to be on the field with them. But no footballs and no helmets just yet.

The offseason program is broken down into three phases. The only portion of the entire offseason that's mandatory is the minicamp in June.

Carson Wentz met with reporters Monday afternoon.

Phase One: Lasts for the first two weeks. Strength coaches are allowed on the field to work with players, but no other coaches are allowed on the field. Footballs aren't allowed on the field, just "dead ball" activities. Quarterbacks are allowed to throw to receivers, but those receivers can't be covered. Kickers and punters can also use footballs. No helmets for any players during the obviously non-contact periods.

Phase Two: The next three weeks of the offseason program. Finally, all coaches are allowed on the field for instruction, but still no competition (offense vs. defense). And still no contact and still no helmets.

Phase Three: The following four weeks. This is the portion of the offseason schedule you're more familiar with. It includes OTAs (organized team activities) and the mandatory minicamp in mid-June. Helmets are allowed, but no shells or pads. Offense vs. defense drills are allowed, but no 1-on-1 drills. Still no contact.

Here's a look at the Eagles' schedule this offseason:

Rookie minicamp: May 12-14

OTAs: May 23-25, May 30-June 1, June 5-6, 8-9

Mandatory minicamp: June 13-15
