Eagles Mailbag: Nelson Agholor as a Returner, Josh Adams the Answer RB?

We answered a bunch of your questions yesterday (see story), but we have plenty more to mow through today as the Eagles get ready to host the Cowboys tonight.

To your questions:

OK, to answer your first of like 30 questions, I don't think Agholor as a returner is a bad idea, but he hasn't done it much at the NFL level. He has just one punt return and it came earlier this season. At USC, he had four touchdowns in 37 returns and averaged 14.6 yards per return. That's pretty damn good. I also think Agholor would make a good kick returner, but he hasn't gotten a chance there either.

I kind of think you're right about Agholor's losing some playing time. I think Golden Tate is going to play a lot in the slot, which will force Agholor outside, where he hasn't had as much success. But this move will also allow the Eagles to use more 11 personnel, which they've been a little more hesitant to do this season. I think Doug Pederson needs to be creative in his approach to get everyone involved.

This is an easy one for me. I'm not sure there's a harder game in the NFL than at the Saints right now. They're arguably the best team in the NFL and the Superdome gives them a huge advantage. In the last three seasons, the Saints have won 70 percent of their games at home, which ranks them seventh in the NFL. That's not completely mind-blowing, but the Rams barely even have a home-field advantage in Los Angeles. Remember how many Eagles fans were there last season?

Can he help? Sure.

Is he the answer? Nah.

The way it works is each week the Eagles assign certain running backs to certain plays. Now, obviously, the players know the whole playbook and there's not always time to get the right back into the game. But what we saw with Adams a couple weeks ago is one of the plays with him in there seemed to work, so the Eagles stuck with it. The Eagles are never going to abandon the committee, especially not with this group. I think there's a good chance they continue to operate like this and see who gets hot on any given day.

I kind of like this thought process. You want the Cowboys to suck, but not suck too much because then they'll make changes, which might eventually end the suckage. I get it. I'm not going to tell you how to root, but I think if I were in your position, I wouldn't do these mental gymnastics. I'd want to Eagles to beat the Cowboys by a million and let the chips fall where they will.
