Eagles Injury Update: Eagles Going Into Sunday Very Light at CB

Updated: 2:18 p.m.

The Eagles were without four possible starting cornerbacks for the third straight day of practice Friday, which is setting up a tough spot for Sunday against the Giants.

The Eagles have been absolutely decimated in the secondary and are going into Sunday's game very light at CB.

Even though Doug Pederson said his injured corners are day to day, the following players were missing again at Friday's practice:

Sidney Jones (hamstring)
Rasul Douglas (knee, ankle)
Avonte Maddox (knee, ankle)
Jalen Mills (foot)
Darren Sproles (hamstring)
Jordan Hicks (calf)

All of those six players, aside from Douglas, have been ruled out for Sunday. Douglas is listed as questionable, but he seems like a bit of a longshot.

The Eagles were so thin in the secondary that this week, they relied on backup wide receivers to play corner in practice for the scout team. That's not ideal.

This means what we've kind of anticipated all week. The Eagles are going to be incredibly thin in the secondary as they head into Sunday's game against the Giants.

Your likely starters at corner are Chandon Sullivan, De'Vante Bausby and Cre'Von LeBlanc. Just a reminder, the longest-tenured player among the trio is Sullivan, who was called up on Oct. 25.

11/5: LeBlanc claimed off waivers
10/25: Sullivan promoted from the practice squad

The trio has 41 combined games of NFL experience. LeBlanc leads the way with 33 games, followed by Bausby (five) and Sullivan (three).

Those three will likely be the corners, with Malcolm Jenkins and Corey Graham at safety. The other backup DBs are safeties Tre Sullivan and Deiondre' Hall.

Pederson said the Eagles will need to rely on their veterans, namely Jenkins, to make sure these young and inexperienced players are lined up correctly.

"I think the biggest challenge is the rhythm, the continuity, the communication sometimes," Pederson said. "Just body language, understanding the defense. All those things that kind of come with being around OTAs, being around training camp. The fact is, everything matters now. Everything counts. It's a real game. They have to, obviously, understand that, step their game up, laser focus like we talk about and be prepared."

In addition to the guys who will be out this week, the Eagles already lost Ronald Darby and Rodney McLeod to knee injuries for the season. This secondary can't take any more hits.
