Eagles Injury Update: Alshon Jeffery Cleared for Contact

Alshon Jeffery has been cleared for contact, but Doug Pederson isn't ready to say Jeffery will play this weekend in Tennessee.

Getting cleared for contact, however, was the final medical hurdle Jeffery needed to clear in his recovery from rotator cuff surgery after the Super Bowl.

"We're excited to get him in the mix and see where he's at," Pederson said. "We'll make a final determination, obviously, later in the week."

Jeffery, 28, has been a limited participant in practice the last couple weeks. He was listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Colts, but it never seemed likely he'd play in that one. It was, however, a sign that he was getting closer.

Jeffery, who signed with the Eagles has a free agent last offseason, played the entire 2017 season with a torn rotator cuff. A couple weeks ago, when he returned to practice, he again said if he was faced with the same decision again, he'd do it all over again. Missing a few weeks to start the 2018 season is a pretty good trade-off for winning the Super Bowl in 2017.

What will be the determining factors in deciding whether or not Jeffery plays Sunday?

You gotta just see him practice, see how he moves around, see how he gets bumped around, the contact aspect of it even though we're not live or anything like that. And just see where he's at physically with everything he's gone through. Again, it's a situation where you want to make sure the player's right, 100 percent right before we put him out on the field.

Pederson was asked if Jeffery does play vs. the Titans, will they ease him back in or will he hit the ground running?

"Well, you'll have to wait until Sunday," Pederson said.

Rodney McLeod
While there was good news on Jeffery, there was no news on the Eagles' starting safety, who hurt his right knee on Sunday vs. the Colts. After the game, McLeod said he felt OK but said the tests would determine more.

As of Wednesday morning, Pederson said the Eagles are awaiting results from one final test. Losing McLeod would hurt.

Jay Ajayi, Darren Sproles
Pederson wasn't ready to say whether or not the two running backs will be back on the field this Sunday in Nashville, but again said he's looking forward to getting them back on the practice field this week.
