Eagles-Giants II: 5 Matchups to Watch

The last time these two teams met, they had the same record. Since then, the Giants have trended up, while the Eagles have gone the other way.

The Eagles (5-9) won their next game after losing to the Giants but have now lost their last five. The Giants (10-4) have gone 5-1 since playing the Eagles.

Still, this is a division game and they're normally close. The Giants won 28-23 back on Nov. 6 at MetLife Stadium.

Here are five matchups to watch on Thursday night:

Odell Beckham Jr. vs. Leodis McKelvin
Beckham caught four passes for 46 yards in the first meeting, but did have two touchdowns. In five career games against the Eagles, he has 30 catches for 374 yards and four touchdowns.

In his career, Beckham has 272 catches for 3,928 yards. If he picks up 72 receiving yards by the end of the season, he'll be the second player in NFL history with 4,000 receiving yards through three seasons. Randy Moss had 4,163 to start his career.

And Beckham's 272 catches rank second all-time behind Jarvis Landry's 276. Landry and Beckham were teammates at LSU and came into the league in the same year.

He's also ready to play in Philly, which he called a "pretty ruthless place" on his conference call with Philly reporters this week.

McKelvin has had a really up-and-down season in 2016. He's given up big plays, but he's also made a few. Big test on Thursday.

Eli Manning vs. Jim Schwartz
Manning doesn't have a great offensive line, but he's been sacked just 20 times this season. He can thank his quick release for that. Manning is obviously a veteran quarterback and is like an offensive coordinator on the field. He has the entire playbook at the line of scrimmage.

Manning threw a season-high four touchdown passes against the Eagles in November. Manning has had more four-touchdown games against the Eagles (four) than any other quarterback.

It'll be a battle of minds between him and the Eagles' defensive coordinator, who has to try to find a way to either get to the quarterback or disrupt him in some way.

Jason Peters vs. Olivier Vernon
Peters was named to his ninth-career Pro Bowl on Tuesday night and while he isn't still in his prime, he's had a really good season. Without Jason Pierre-Paul, the Giants' pass rush won't be as effective as the last time the Eagles saw them, but Vernon is having a good season.

A lot of people raised their eyebrows when the Giants handed out a big contract to Vernon in the offseason, but he's earned it in 2016. Vernon had a hand injury that hindered him for a while, but he has picked up 8½ sacks this season. And according to ProFootballFocus, he has more QB hurries (55) than any other 4-3 defensive end in the league. Vernon was a real Pro Bowl snub.

Carson Wentz vs. Landon Collins
It's been an up-and-down rookie season for Wentz. In his last game against the Giants, he completed 27 of 47 pass attempts for 364 yards, his highest total of the year. But he did have two interceptions.

Both interceptions came in the first quarter. Collins, who is having an incredible second season in the league, picked off the first one. This season, Collins has five interceptions, three sacks and 13 passes defensed. He's emerged as a serious Defensive Player of the Year candidate.

Zach Ertz vs. Giants' defense
In the last game against the Giants, Ertz caught eight balls for 97 yards. That game came before he really started to get cooking late in this season. In the last three weeks, Ertz has 25 catches (most in the NFL) for 271 yards and a touchdown.

In his career, Ertz has consistently had success against the Giants. In seven career games against New York, he has 31 catches (on 42 targets) for 438 yards.

He and Wentz have worked a ton on forming the kind of on-field chemistry he worked up with Sam Bradford toward the end of last season. The good news for Ertz is that Wentz isn't going anywhere next year.
