Eagles-Cowboys: 5 Players to Watch in Season Finale

For the last 15 games, we've broken down five matchups to watch in every Eagles' game. That seemed like an exercise in futility this week with not knowing who the Cowboys are going to play.

There are still reasons to watch, though. Really.

So instead of listing the key matchups to win the game, here are five players to keep an eye on while you're watching the game on New Year's Day:

Byron Marshall
Marshall was on the Eagles' practice squad until the Baltimore game two weeks ago. In that one, he played 39 snaps but got just one last week against the Giants. In that Baltimore game, there was some good and some bad. He started off shaky but ended up gaining 22 yards on nine carries and showed off the jump cut that has turned some of his teammates' eyes during practice.

Darren Sproles and Marshall should get most of the Eagles' work at running back in the finale. And head coach Doug Pederson apparently really wants to give Marshall some snaps.

"I would obviously love to see Byron quite a bit in this last ballgame, see what you've got there," Pederson said.

Isaac Seumalo
Allen Barbre (hamstring) comes into this game listed as doubtful, one of the couple times the Eagles have used that designation this season. According to Pederson, veteran Stefen Wisniewski will start in Barbre's place if necessary, but he also wants to get Seumalo some snaps.

Seumalo has started two games at right guard for Brandon Brooks this season, but it wouldn't be a bad idea for the Eagles to get a look at him at left guard in this game. Barbre has one more year left on his contract and is relatively cheap (under $2 million cap hit), but at some point, the Eagles will want to start their third-round pick. Why not take a look at him in a meaningless game?

Nelson Agholor
Agholor caught the third touchdown pass of his career against the Giants a little over a week ago. Now, it's time to see if he can carry over any momentum to the next game.

I know many fans are going to want to see Bryce Treggs and Paul Turner in this game, but I'm just not sure if they would fit into the Eagles' future plans no matter how well they play in this one game. And Dorial Green-Beckham will have to be judged once he's here for an offseason.

But Agholor is an interesting one. He's definitely back next season thanks to his salary situation. He shouldn't be one of their top receivers next year, but maybe he can eventually make some sort of consistent contributions.

Vinny Curry
After signing a five-year extension worth $46.25 million this offseason, Curry has been a massive disappointment (see story). He has just 1½ sacks and has played just 43 percent of the Eagles' defensive snaps.

But thanks to the contract, he's not going anywhere. Connor Barwin said earlier this week that he expects to be back next year and even made it seem like he'd take some sort of pay cut (see story). But if the Eagles want to save a lot of money, they could cut him and move on. If they do that, it'll be time for Curry to live up to his contract.

Maybe the Eagles should get him some extra playing time on Sunday at the Linc.

Carson Wentz
Of course you should tune in to watch Wentz in his last game as a rookie. He needs just three completed passes to break the all-time rookie record and just eight attempts to break the Eagles' all-time record (see story).

Forget all that, though. It's one more chance to see Wentz play. What else are you doing?
