Doug Pederson Provides Injury Updates on DeSean Jackson, Sidney Jones, Darren Sproles

Doug Pederson on Monday afternoon said, as far as he knows, DeSean Jackson's abdominal injury is just a strain and not a sports hernia that would require surgery.

Jackson just needs more time to rehab.

Jackson, 32, has missed the last three weeks after suffering the injury early in Week 2 against Atlanta.

"DeSean, he's still rehabbing, he's working," Pederson said. "Just met with the medical team. He's going to do a little bit more, we're going to push him a little bit more this week to do some more running and things like that. We'll see. He's getting close. Day by day. We'll see here tomorrow and Wednesday and the next day where he's at."

Jackson missed practice all last week and it doesn't seem super likely he'll be ready to play against the Vikings this coming week in Minnesota. Facing Dallas the following week is probably more realistic.

The Eagles have definitely been missing Jackson's contributions to the downfield passing attack.

"You miss his explosiveness, obviously, the threat to stretch the defense," Pederson said, "his ability to get open. Yeah, you miss that."

Darren Sproles

The Eagles' 36-year-old running back/punt returner has a quad strain and Pederson called him "week to week." That means the Eagles will likely be without Sproles for a while.

In the interim, Pederson said Nelson Agholor or Corey Clement will take over punt return duties. Clement muffed a punt on Sunday after he thought it hit off an Eagle's foot. Clement struggled in that role last season too, but Pederson claims he's still confident in Clement.

"I am confident," he said. "And the reason, we just have to get him reps this week. He's missed some time, obviously. He hasn't done enough of it in practice because he's been working special teams in other areas. We gotta get him some reps, obviously, this week, whether we do it live off of [Cameron Johnston's] foot or JUGS machine. Nelly obviously can do it, but I'm confident in [Clement]."

Sidney Jones

Jones was active on Sunday but did not play. He has a hamstring injury suffered in Green Bay. Craig James started in Jones' place against the Jets and played 57 snaps.

Pederson said they will get Jones back at practice this week and expect him to play on Sunday in Minnesota.
