Donnel Pumphrey Misses Eagles Preseason Opener

Donnel Pumphrey came into the preseason with a great chance to show he deserves a roster spot, but he isn't off to a great start.

The second-year running back was not in uniform for Thursday night's preseason opener against the Steelers. Pump was spotted leaving practice early on Tuesday, but afterward said he was fine. Apparently not fine enough to play.

In addition to Pumphrey, Matt Jones was also not in uniform.

Both of those absences were good news for Wendell Smallwood and Josh Adams, who are competing in a four-man race to take the fourth running back spot.

As expected, Nick Foles did not play tonight. Carson Wentz obviously did not play, either.

Get ready for the Sudfeld Show. With Foles and Wentz out, Nate Sudfeld got the start and will give way to Joe Callahan.

Also not in uniform tonight: Mike Wallace (tendinitis), Nelson Agholor, Markus Wheaton, Matt Jones, Ian Park, Asanta Brown. The guys on NFI/PUP also did not play: Brandon Graham, Alshon Jeffery, Chris Maragos, Tim Jernigan.

With the top three receivers out, the Eagles used Mack Hollins, Kamar Aiken and Greg Ward during practice on Tuesday. We'll see if they do the same thing here.

Jason Peters, Darren Sproles, Haloti Ngata and Michael Bennett were in uniform. So it looks like some of the veterans will get at least a little bit of time.
