Carson Wentz Injury Update: Report Says Eagles QB May Not Return Until October

Carson Wentz was eyeing Week 1 for his return.

It appears uncertain if he'll play in September at all.

Wentz could be out for "several weeks," according to a report Thursday night by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The Eagles are obviously using extreme caution with their franchise quarterback and because of that, per the report, we could see Nick Foles as the starter into October. The Eagles play four games in September and host the Vikings on Oct. 7 in Week 5.

"They're not going to put him out there until he's 100 percent healthy," Rapoport said.

Wentz is recovering from a torn ACL and LCL suffered last December. Despite not reaching his goal of Week 1, he has taken the patient approach in stride.

"Carson is in a great spot," Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said this week (see story). "He's in a great spot right now. He's supportive. He understands. He knows exactly where he's at. He works every single day to get back on the field. That's all I can ask for."

Wentz was among the Eagles' six inactive players for Thursday night's season opener against the Falcons at Lincoln Financial Field, but got a good workout in pregame (see story).

For now, though, it's the Super MVP under center.
