Carli Lloyd Has Already ‘gotten Some Inquiries' About Playing Football

Carli Lloyd created quite a buzz earlier this week when the USWNT star showed up at an Eagles-Ravens joint practice and booted a 55-yard field goal through the uprights.

Apparently, football teams have taken notice.

On Planet Futbol TV, Lloyd said she "definitely got some inquiries" and added that "anything's possible."

How much fun would that be?

Your favorite soccer star lacing up football cleats and playing in the NFL. I know a team in Chicago that might be interested.

Here were Lloyd's full comments on Planet Futbol TV:

"There's been some interesting chatter about it. I think anything is possible. It's been really interesting because, for me, I'm just an athlete, I'm a competitor. For so many people they're starting to think, will there ever be a female in the NFL at some point? I think we're kind of at that crossroads as far as equality and women empowerment. You're kind of being in the crosshairs of that. I've definitely got some inquiries, I've definitely got some people talking. Anything's possible, but right now, I'm strictly a soccer player and we'll see what the future holds."

Lloyd is now 37 and has previously indicated she wanted to play in the 2020 Olympics. But an NFL job wouldn't be a bad option if she wants to retire from playing soccer.

While Lloyd admitted she missed a 57-yard field goal the other day (it had the distance), let's put her 55-yarder into perspective. The Eagles have just five field goals in team history that have been from 55-plus and current kicker Jake Elliott has two of them. David Akers played 12 seasons in Philly and was a five-time Pro Bowler; he made one FG from 55-plus in those 12 seasons.

In 2018, NFL kickers made 60 percent of their kicks (26/43) from 55-plus, so even in today's NFL, it's hard to do. And Lloyd did it without any real football training.

Maybe this is all just Lloyd having a little fun … but maybe not. It's at least fun to think about.
