Eagles Injury Update: In a Surprise, Jordan Hicks Participates in Practice

Updated: 1:20 p.m.

Surprise! Jordan Hicks did practice on Wednesday.

A couple hours after head coach Doug Pederson said Hicks (ankle) and Fletcher Cox (calf) would be held out of practice, Hicks was on the field at the start. He'll at least be a limited participant. Cox was not.

"Both optimistic," Pederson said. "They're both doing exceedingly above expectation, obviously, and just an extra day of rest won't hurt those guys."

Rodney McLeod (hamstring) was practicing on Wednesday, after missing the Giants game.

Fellow defensive backs Corey Graham and Jaylen Watkins, who also have hamstring injuries, are day to day. Neither were practicing on Wednesday. Same goes for defensive tackle Destiny Vaeao (wrist).

Pederson gave veteran center Jason Kelce a rest day Wednesday. Pederson said Kelce is healthy. But without him, the Eagles practiced with Stefen Wisniewski at center and Chance Warmack at left guard.

Either Wiz or Warmack will start at left guard Sunday, but the Eagles haven't made that decision yet. Pederson said the plan is to rotate the two this week and have a decision by Friday afternoon.

It sounds like Isaac Seumalo is clearly the odd man out. Pederson compared his situation to Nelson Agholor's last season. It's pretty clear Pederson isn't ready to go back to Seumalo yet.

Kenjon Barner, who was brought back this week to replace Darren Sproles, will be one of the players who will return punts in practice this week. That ability, along with his experience, is why the Eagles decided to bring him back. Barner is wearing No. 38. He wore 34 in his previous time with the Eagles.

Pederson also offered an update on cornerback Ronald Darby, who suffered a dislocated ankle in the season opener against Washington.

"He's progressing well," Pederson said. "He's right on schedule in that time frame you alluded to (4 to 6 weeks). Again, don't want to rush him back until he's 100 percent."

If Darby stays on schedule, his possible return date could be Oct. 23 against Washington, Oct. 29 against San Francisco or Nov. 5 against Denver. It seems unlikely the Eagles would rush him back for the Oct. 12 game Thursday night against the Panthers.
