The Phillies are set to activate reliever Jose Contreras from the disabled list before Monday’s game in San Francisco, according to earlier reported that Contreras was back with the team for Sunday's game and had planned to go on the team's upcoming 10-game West Coast/Arizona swing.

The veteran right-hander threw just 14 innings last year (3.86 ERA, 5 saves) before being shut down last May with an elbow issue that required surgery.

PhillyBurbs reports that to make room for the 40-year-old the Phillies will option Joe Savery to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The lefty allowed one run, one hit and one walk in 2-1/3 innings after making his first Opening Day roster.

Contreras, who closed last season before being shut down, will likely be used as a sixth- and seventh-inning guy out of the pen especially since Chad Qualls has excelled as Jonathan Papelbon's eight-inning setup man.
