Celek Goes Under the Knife

Eagles tight end has hernia and hip injuries repaired

It looks like Brent Celek didn’t let a couple of injuries prevent him from beasting his way along this latter part of the Eagles season.

Celek went under the knife Tuesday to repair a sports hernia and torn labrum in his left hip, the Eagles announced Wednesday.

It’s unknown when Celek suffered the injuries.

Despite the ailments, the Eagles veteran tight end still managed to finish second on the Eagles in catches and yards, hauling in 62 balls for 811 yards and five TDs -- earning dozens of extra yards by running over defenders after making the grab.

Celek was underutilized early in the season hauling in just 13 passes for 115 yards and only one score through the Eagles first six games. But he exploded for 49 grabs for 696 yards starting with a seven-catch, 94-yard and one touchdown performance in Week 8 against the Cowboys.

Celek joined wideouts DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin as the first trio Eagles history to all break the 800-yards receiving mark in a season.
