Brett Brown Says Joel Embiid Won't Play in Game 1

The Sixers will kick off their playoff series against the Heat on Saturday night without star center Joel Embiid.

While Embiid said recently he considered himself "unlikely" to play in Game 1 after suffering a orbital fracture and concussion on March 28, his head coach was a little more definitive on Friday morning.

"[Embiid] will not play in Game 1," Brett Brown said on the Dan Patrick Show on NBCSN. "He will not play in Game 1 and from that point going forward, we'll figure some stuff out. Unless something remarkable happens, Dan, I don't plan on him playing in Game 1."

Basically, Brown just confirmed what we already thought was going to happen. The Sixers are going to be without Embiid to start the series. It's unclear when the big man will be ready to return to action, although he has been trying out a face mask.

Without Embiid, the Sixers have been rolling along anyway, but they'd obviously like to get him back on the court.
