What to Watch: Baver Heats Up the Ice

Reading native goes for the gold, U.S. hockey looks to advance

Speed skater Allison Baver returns to the ice Wednesday in what might be one of her last chances to bring a medal home to Reading, Pa.

The question is will she be heating up the lice like she heats up photo shoots?

Baver, a two-time Olympian, was questionable to even make these games after breaking her leg last February. But, she made it back.

The Vancouver games didn’t start great for failed to reach the finals in the 1,500m. But, the beautiful speedster has hope that she could still earn her first medal.

She will be skating in the Women’s 1,000m prelims and the 3,000m relay finals.

The 29-year-old model/skater turned to Facebook in the days leading up to Wednesday’s races as a way to share with her fans what was going on in her head.

“I need to get my confidence back,” she mused Monday night.

She also sounded excited for the chance to skate.

“Wednesday is gonna be off the hook,” Baver said Monday.

But by Tuesday she seemed to be focusing on the beach instead of the ice.

“I'm gonna stop by for a bikini. I need the hottest bikini in world! We're renting a mansion with a chef on an island somewhere after the Olympics to celebrate,” she wrote.

Celebrate? Let’s hope so. The big show Wednesday will be when Baver teams up with Katherine Reutter, Alyson Dudek, Kimberly Derrick and Lana Gehring to skate for gold in the relay. The race is set for 9:26 p.m.

Also, heats for the Women’s 1,000m begin Wednesday at 8 p.m. (EST) with the quarters, semis and finals to be held Thursday night.

Good luck Allison -- here’s to you hopefully becoming the most attractive medalist we’ve ever seen. Just remember to wear your lucky charm.

Also, the USA Hockey team returned to the ice Wednesday in quarterfinal action. Cherry Hill’s Bobby Ryan got help from Zach Parise and Ryan Miller to lead Team USA past Switzerland 2-0 to advance into the semis.
