Welcome Back Trotter

Should be used a a run stopper

The third time is a charm -- Jeremiah Trotter is an Eagle again.

The Birds signed “The Axe Man” Tuesday, NBC Philadelphia learned.

The former starting middle linebacker signed a one-year deal for the league minimum, Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reported.

To make room for Trotter the Eagles released back up quarterback Jeff Garcia.

Trot should fill the leadership void left by the departure of Brain Dawkins and injury to Stewart Bradley. It remained unclear though how much of an upgrade he would be over Omar Gaither in the middle of the Birds' defense.

The one area where Trot could excel is as a run stopper on first and second downs.

The 32-year-old played in four Pro-Bowls during his two previous stints in Eagles green. But he was released by the team prior to the 2007 season and would only play three games that year with Tampa Bay.

He hasn't played since. He credited knee surgery last year with making him feel he could return to the field.

"Jeremiah Trotter has always been one of my favorite players," coach Andy Reid said. "He has worked very hard to keep himself in shape and we are pleased with where he is physically. We are excited to give him an opportunity to contribute to our football
team."
