Andrews Owes Reid, Eagles Or So He Says

Eagles lineman claims he wants to play again

Mercurial Eagles offensive lineman (we can’t really call him a tackle yet since he hasn’t played a regular season game since being named starter) Shawn Andrews took to the airwaves recently to explain why fans should have trust that he is ready to contribute.

Andrews Spoke with South Jersey sports talk station 97.3 ESPN about things ranging from injuries to rehab to Andy Reid to rapping.

After not playing for two years due to back problems and bouts with depression Andrews wants to get back out there.

“I want to get to mashing people again,” Andrews told 97.3’s Mike Gill.

“I’m already motivated right now to get back on the field,” Andrews said.

The likelihood of him being ready to do that in time for Training Camp could be tough. He is facing six months of rehab to get his balky back back into football shape, he said.

As with most things Andrews, this interview was more than just football as the Big Kid talked about his musical interests as well.

“Music is just something that I was just blessed with that talent,” he said.

Some would argue him on that one after hearing Andrews “Getting His Michael Phelps on.”

The former Pro-Bowl guard claimed he was looking forward to playing with his former Arkansas teammates tackle Jason Peters and his brother Stacy on the offensive line last year but injuries prevented that. He also knows that his future with the team could be in doubt.

“One thing about coach (Andy) Reid is that if you’re not getting it done… he’ll go the other way,” said Andrews.

And Andrews hinted at unfinished business in Philly.

"When I came out to LA after my back issue, I had to look coach Reid in the eye and tell him I owe him.”

Time will tell if the unreliable Andrews will keep up that promise.
