Shane Victorino Injured in Phillies Win

Victorino to undergo MRI exam

Phillies center fielder Shane Victorino will have a MRI exam today after injuring an oblique muscle during Tuesday night’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Victorino took himself out of the game in the seventh inning.

He said he first felt pain in his side while diving back to first base in the sixth inning. He later felt it again when he ran to catch a fly ball in left-center field. After making the catch, Victorino called out a Phillies trainer and then left the game.

"It was very mild," Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. told MLB.com's Todd Zolecki. "It was more precautionary."

Victorino said he thought he could have remained in the game, but he did not want the oblique to "blow out."

"I just wanted to be cautious on that," he said. "I don't want to make it longer than it needs to be. Hopefully other than being sore, nothing is really wrong. I don't think it's that bad. I hope it's not that bad. I don't want to make it a month when I can make it three days or whatever. Hopefully I'll feel better in the morning when I roll out of bed."

Replacement options include outfielders Dominic Brown or John Mayberry Jr.  Both are currently playing for the Phils triple-A affiliate Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
