The Flyers' Golden Boys

There wasn't much celebrating south of Vancouver after Sunday Canada beat the U.S. 3-2 in the Olympic hockey final.

But some gold should still be coming back to Philly. 

As Canadian Sydney Crosby’s gold-medal winning shot sailed through the five-hole of American goaltender Ryan Miller, two Flyers went and celebrated with a Penguin.

Two Flyers hugging a Pittsburgh Penguin? Certainly something you don’t see every day.

But thanks to Crosby, two of our Broad Street Bullies, Chris Pronger and Mike Richards, were golden.

"It was wild," Flyers captain Mike Richards told Philly.com moments after winning his Olympic gold medal. "It was loud. It was exciting. It was crazy."

"You couldn't even hear yourself think. You just wanted to get that first shift under you, play it safe, and then move on from there," Richards said.

Richards, who ended up with two goals and three assists in the tournament was joined by Pronger on the podium.

"We knew the pressure was kind of on us to close out the game,” said Pronger. “It was a lot of fun it was a great game and certainly the fans got their money's worth.”

There is no rest for the weary, however, as Flyers Head Coach Peter Laviolette has already made it clear that both Richards and Pronger would be expected to play on Tuesday in Tampa Bay.

But, a few other Flyers likely won't be playing against the Lightning. Goalie Ray Emery was shut down for the season, forward Riley Cote was waived and Oskars Bartulis was hurt while playing for Latvia in the Olympics, according to the Daily News' Frequent Flyers.
