Russian Skicross Racer Komissarova Injured

During training on Saturday, Russian skicross racer sustained a "serious" injury.

Russian skicross racer Maria Komissarova sustained a "serious" injury in Olympic training Saturday and was taken to a nearby hospital for surgery.

The Russian freestyle federation said in a statement that the 23-year-old skier would not compete next Friday. The statement called the injury "serious" but did not disclose the nature of the injury. It said after initial tests were performed, doctors decided to have the surgery done in a hospital that was recently built near the skiing venues.

Messages left with the federation by The Associated Press were not immediately returned.
