Runyan Works Out for Birds

Could Jon Runyan be returning to the nest?

Former starting right tackle worked out for the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday, NBC Philadelphia's Jade McCarthy reported.

"Big Jon" never missed a game in nine years with the Eagles, starting 192 straight regular-season contests. He wasn't re-signed after having microfracture surgery on his right knee.

Coach Andy Reid brought the 6-foot-7, 330-pounder in to check his fitness level.

The Birds revamped their offensive line in the off-season amidst concerns over Runyan's age and recovery from injury.

Philadelphia acquired two-time Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters from Buffalo to replace longtime starter Tra Thomas. Shawn Andrews, a two-time Pro Bowl pick at right guard, was moved to Runyan's spot. Shawn's brother, Stacy, was signed to play right guard.

The line was rounded out by veteran center Jamaal Jackson and left guard Todd Herremans.

But every member of the offensive line (with the exception of Jackson) struggled through injuries during the preseason. And the unit still hasn't taken the field as a whole.

So, maybe Big Jon could be brought back to help out in a pinch.
