Temple, PSU in Different Draws at 7's Rugby

Collegiate rugby is coming to Chester

Rugby is coming to the area and so are two local teams with something to prove.

Penn State headlines Pool A while Temple tops Pool D in the USA 7’s Collegiate Rugby Championship draws that were picked at Philadelphia’s Union League Thursday night.

Cal, LSU and Ohio State join Penn State in Pool A while Arizona, Oklahoma and Texas join Temple in Pool D.

The two-day tournament of fast paced seven-on-seven action is to be held at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. the first weekend in June. It features 16 collegiate teams and 38 games.

Penn State will open the tourney on Saturday, June 4 by playing LSU at the odd start time of 9:58 a.m. Temple’s first match is later that day at 12:10 p.m. against Arizona.

The games consist of just two seven-minute halves. The seven-on-seven format is much faster and spread open than traditional rugby.

The games are to be aired on Versus and NBC but considering that the Dropkick Murphy’s will be performing a free post-match concert on Saturday you will want to be in the house. Single-day and weekend tickets are available online, by phone at 1-800-298-4200 or in person at the PPL Park box office. Group discounts are available by calling 215-389-9543.
