J-Roll Letting Time Roll by in Clearwater

Phillies' Rollins biding time till start of season

Shortstop Jimmy Rollins is biding his time to the start of regular season.

The Phillies' longest tenured player has fared well this spring, and is tied with Ryan Howard for the team-high in hits this spring, with 16. He is hitting .314 over 17 games and had one of Philadelphia's three hits in an 8-0 loss to the Braves Wednesday.

But, Phillies veterans like Rollins are at the point of Spring Training where they're “finding a way to kill time,” he said to the AP.

After more than a decade with the Phillies organization, J-Roll has earned the right to take it easy sometimes down in Clearwater.

Rollins' point shouldn't be misunderstood. While major leaguers stereotypically hit an imaginary spring training wall each year in late March, they're also putting the final touches on starting the regular season, April 5, in tip-top shape.

Considering Rollins’ repertoire of three All-Star Games, three Gold Gloves and a National League MVP, J-Roll probably knows what it takes to be ready for the regular season grind.
