Rollins Returns But Phillies Lose

Nats walk off with 2-1 win

The Phillies appeared to be in spring training mode during their 2-1 loss Tuesday night in Washington.

Most of the Phightins starters got the night off as one important piece returned to the starting lineup.

Shortstop Jimmy Rollins -- who started for the first time in nearly three weeks -- went 1 for 3. The Phils hope that Rollins' tight hamstring is healthy enough for him to play a big role during the postseason.

“I won't be 100 percent until next February -- probably,” Rollins said. “I just won't steal bases unless it's 100 percent a necessity. I want to get as much rest as I can, do as much as I can with it before I have to push it.”

One of the other Phillies regulars supplied the Phightins only run as Raul Ibanez went deep in the fourth.

Pitcher Roy Oswalt also had a good night -- not allowing an earned run -- before departing after just five innings. But he left with the game tied at 1 all.

The Phils lost after Nationals slugger Adam Dunn blasted a solo shot off reliever Jose Contreras in the bottom of the ninth.

Having already clinched the NL East, the loss to the last place Nats was pretty much meaningless in the grand scheme of things, though a win would’ve been nice for momentum.

The same teams face off in the series rubber match Wednesday night.
