“Sugar Ray” Punches Ticket to Philly: Report

Ray Emery knocked out Marty Biron in a fight a few season ago. Now the Sugar Ray could knock out Biron again -- this time from between the pipes for the Flyers.

It seems like the Orange and Black may have a new No. 1 between the pipes when the puck drops next season. It was reported on numerous Web sites and blogs that Ray Emery will become the Flyers' goalie next season.

Talks with free-agent goalie Biron are on going but it is believed he is asking for too much money and too long a contract.

No one in the Flyers office confirmed or denied anything about a possible Emery signing.

“We are having internal discussions on a lot of things. Emery is one of them. I'm not going to comment on our internal discussions,” General Manager Paul Holmgren told NBC Philadelphia.

But it seems like Emery’s agent, J.P. Barry, has a different opinion.

“We have been talking for several weeks now. Paul has done due diligence on Ray. I'm hopeful it will lead to a contract,” he told CSN Philly.

The Emery rumor is nothing new -- we reported last month that the Fly Guys might take a risk on the controversial goalie.

He last played for the Ottawa Senators before having his contract bought out after he feel into trouble on and off the ice. He spent last season in exile playing in Russia.

Emery was no stranger to trouble during his NHL career. Emery’s history “rivals that of Ron Hextall behind the mask and far exceeds it off the ice,” according to The700Level.com.

Is Holmgren playing coy and will the Flyers sign Emery? Nothing will be official until the free agency period opens July 1.

Now what do fans think about "Sugar Ray" being the new No. 1 goalie?  Time will tell.
