Pronger Confirms Back Injury: Eskin

Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger confirmed Monday, which some members of the media were saying for days.

The defensive leader of the Flyers has a herniated disc in his back, not a “lower body injury” like the Flyers said during their semifinal sweep at the hands of the Bruins, according to Sports Final and 610-WIP radio host Howard Eskin.

Pronger, who missed the start of the Buffalo series with a hand injury that cost him the last month plus of the season, only played in Game 1 of the Boston series before missing the next three with the injury.

The back injury caused Pronger to feel pain in his leg, Eskin said.

Pronger also confirmed that surgery is possible to repair the herniated disc, according to Eskin.

The recovery time for the 36-year-old Flyer isn’t clear but he should be able to skate again even if he does undergo back surgery, Eskin said.
