Planned Hockey Arena May Move Away From Water

The planned $80 million hockey arena could help revitalize downtown.

A planned $80 million hockey arena that has been at the heart of Mayor Ed Pawlowski's vision for a
revitalized Allentown waterfront may be moving downtown instead, The Morning Call is reporting.

The newspaper reported Wednesday that discussions about the new arena, which would be home for the AHL Phantoms, an affiliate of the Flyers, and seat some 10,000 spectators, have centered on the
location of the former Corporate Plaza building, which was demolished in 1994 after it was wrecked by sinkholes.

Lehigh County Executive Don Cunningham said the change in location to downtown could help serve as a catalyst for the continual revitalization of the area.
