Phillies Draft Germantown Grad

Left-Hander Jesse Biddle impressed the team with a private workout

With the 27th pick in Monday's 2010 First-Year Player Draft, our beloved Phillies, stayed local selecting Germantown Friends School grad Jessie Biddle.

"He's just so happy. This is absolutely a dream come true for him. Especially being a Philadelphia kid, and how the fans of Philadelphia are toward their team. For a kid to get drafted out of high school by his hometown club? He isn't going to be able to sleep," Phillies area scout Eric Valent told MLB.com

The 18-year-old six-foot-five left-hander wowed the team during a private workout last Wednesday when he threw 94 mph, not to mention a changeup, curveball and slider, according to MLB.com.

Biddle was 9-2 with one save and a 1.06 ERA in 2010. He allowed just nine earned runs, 21 hits and 29 walks in 59 1-3 innings, while striking out 140 batters.

And although the impressive pitcher has made a commitment to the University of Oregon, the Phillies have little doubt he'll sign. After all, who wouldn't want to play in their hometown?
