Halladay Leads Phillies Past Cardinals

Righty goes 7 as Phils win 7-2

Roy Halladay wasn't at his best but he was impressive enough as the Phillies beat the Cardinals 7-2 on Thursday.

All the offense Doc needed came from Jayson Werth who hit a three-run homer in the first to put the Phillies up for good.

Halladay (6-1) allowed two runs and eight hits in seven innings. He tied a season-high with nine strikeouts, and -- in a humorous moment -- even talked manager Charlie Manuel into letting him get one more out after allowing a run in the seventh.

Raul Ibanez also homered for the Phillies, who took the last three in a four-game series matching a pair of NL division leaders.

Former Phillie Kyle Lohse (0-2) took the hill for St. Louis. He allowed five runs -- three earned -- and nine hits in four innings.

The Phillies were playing the game with heavy hearts. They held a moment of silence before the game for former Phillies Hall of Fame pitcher Robin Roberts, who died Thursday morning. He was 83.

And, for the second straight game, no Phillies fan ran on the field.
