PSU Interim Coach Tom Bradley Took Job With Mixed Emotions

"Coach Paterno has meant more to me than anyone except my father."

Interim head football coach Tom Bradley answered questions publicly for the first time since Joe Paterno was fired.

"I took this job with very mixed emotions," Bradley said at an 11 a.m. press conference from Beaver Stadium.

"I've been asked to handle this. . .I will do it in the manner that Penn State expects. That's where we are right now."

Bradley said he was reviewing film Wednesday night when he got a call from acting university president, Rodney Erickson, who asked if he'd take over the position.

Earlier in the morning, Bradley addressed the team and staff.

He talked for about ten minutes, according to Philly.com, stressing that he is the coach, but that the team has to own what happens on the field -- he can't put on the pads.

"It's our team. It's not the coach's team. It's not the university's team. It's the player's team," Cornerback Stephon Morris told reporters after the meeting.

"I am who I am and they know me pretty well," Bradley said about the team and the football coaching staff. Bradley said receivers coach Mike McQueary will be coaching during Saturday's game against Nebraska.

Bradley was tapped as interim coach after the Board of Trustees fired Joe Paterno and PSU President Graham Spanier in the wake of a widening scandal. Former defensive coach Jerry Sandusky is at the center of the case -- accused in a 23-page Grand Jury report of abusing eight children over a 15-year period. Many are questioning why the school didn't do more to stop the alleged abuse.

Asked where Paterno should be on Saturday, during the Nebraska game, Bradley answered, "Coach Paterno has meant more to me than anyone except my father. And I don't want to get emotional and start talking about that, okay?"
