NHL Last Night: Trades Help Calgary Sink Flyers

Olli Jokinen got two goals in his first game for Calgary, and fellow trade-deadline addition Jordan Leopold also scored, leading the Flames to a 5-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers in Thursday's NHL action.

Jokinen, acquired from Phoenix, centered the top line for Calgary, who pushed their advantage atop the Northwest Division to 10 points.

It could be a costly loss for Philadelphia because forward Daniel Briere left with a lower-body injury. Briere, a high-priced free-agent acquisition in 2008, has missed 51 games to injuries this season, only returning to the lineup on Sunday.

Wild 4, Sharks 3, OT

In San Jose, California, San Jose gave up a late three-goal lead to lose to Minnesota and miss a chance to take back the outright NHL lead.

Marek Zidlicky scored the Wild's tying goal from mid-ice when goalie Brian Boucher made a humiliating blunder on the puck, and Mikko Koivu scored the winner with 13 seconds left in overtime.

Zidlicky completed Minnesota's comeback from a three-goal deficit less than eight minutes left when his backhand from just past the center line somehow bounced between the legs of Boucher, who whiffed with his glove.

Coyotes 2, Bruins 1
In Boston, Steven Reinprecht scored the winner in the second period as Phoenix downed Eastern Conference leader Boston.

Coyotes goalie Ilja Bryzgalov made 25 saves to hold off an out-of-touch Bruins outfit that is rapidly coming back to the field in the East.

Maple Leafs 2, Capitals 1
In Washington, Toronto extended its season-high points streak to eight games with an upset win over Washington.

Goalie Martin Gerber, signed from Ottawa on Wednesday, made 37 saves in his Toronto debut and only had his shutout attempt ruined in the final minute.

Lee Stempniak and Pavel Kubina scored third-period goals for the Maple Leafs.

NHL goals leader and reigning MVP Alex Ovechkin missed the game for the Capitals because of a bruised right heel.

Penguins 4, Panthers 1
In Sunrise, Florida, Pittsburgh notched a fifth straight win by downing Florida.

Sidney Crosby had a goal in his return to the Penguins' lineup after four games out with a groin injury, and Tyler Kennedy scored twice in the third period.

Predators 4, Blue Jackets 2
In Nashville, Tennessee, Nashville made it six successive victories, overcoming Columbus.

Steve Sullivan scored the go-ahead goal on a breakaway late in the second period, as the Predators jumped up to be equal sixth in the Western Conference.

The Blue Jackets have lost 10 straight games in Nashville.

Kings 5, Stars 4, OT
In Los Angeles, Michal Handzus scored the overtime winner to complete his second career hat trick in Los Angeles' comeback victory over Dallas.

The Kings scored twice in the final 3:18 of regulation. Dallas took three penalties in a 63-second span, giving Los Angeles a two-man advantage for 1:10. Handzus scored during the 5-on-3 power play, and the Stars then tied it with 14 seconds left.

Senators 4, Oilers 2
In Ottawa, Jason Spezza set an Ottawa record with a goal inside 12 seconds, putting the Senators en route to beat Edmonton.

Spezza broke Daniel Alfredsson's club mark of 13 seconds, and then later set up Mike Comrie's second-period goal.

Rangers 4, Islanders 2
In Uniondale, New York, the controversial Sean Avery returned to the NHL after a three-month exile, helping the Rangers prevail in the all-New York clash.

Avery was banished by Dallas in December because of comments he made about players dating his former girlfriends. He was suspended six games by the NHL, but then wasn't welcomed back by the Stars. The Rangers signed him last month.

Nikolai Zherdev had a goal and an assist for the Rangers, who boosted their playoff chances.
