Jersey's Rolle in the NFL Draft

Rhodes Scholar excels in the classroom and the gridiron

Rhodes ScholarOxford University. Medical Anthropology.

Those are six words that you rarely hear when talking about the NFL Draft, until now.

Myron Rolle, a Galloway, N.J. native who attended the Hun School of Princeton, will enter the 2010 NFL Draft looking to go in the first three rounds after taking a year off from football to study at Oxford University.

It's not everyday that a guy from South Jersey winds up a Rhodes scholar. It's even rarer that the same guy goes into a career in football.

The a 6-foot-2, 215 pound defensive back/Rhodes Scholar, graduated in three years from Florida State University with a 3.75 GPA. Rolle decided to forgo his senior football season to pursue the rare academic opportunity in England despite heavy criticism from teammates and fans.

While at Oxford, he trained for football two hours per day while going after a masters in medical anthropology. In juggling these two mentally and physically draining tasks successfully, he’s received praise from professors and world leaders with some saying that he is, β€œβ€¦the future of black America.”

He’s also being heavily relied on by numerous NFL representatives to bring back some class and dignity to a league tarnished with a list of fallen stars, like current Eagle Michael Vick and former Eagle-now-Raven Donte Stallworth.

Rolle was invited to participate in the Senior Bowl in January, where he made a big impression on NFL coaches with his conditioning, body type, and work ethic. Most analysts rank him in the top 20 safeties available for this year’s draft, which will take place on April 22 from Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Where will he go? Time will tell but the future is bright for South Jersey's Rolle.

A special segment about Myron Rolle could be seen Sunday morning on ESPN's Outside the Lines.
