McNabb Sits Out But Not Ruled Out

Eagles Head Coach Andy Reid wasn’t quite ready Wednesday to rule Donovan McNabb out for Sunday’s game versus the Saints.

McNabb didn’t practice Wednesday because of his cracked rib and it is looking more likely that he won’t play Sunday. Considering the amount of pain McNabb could endure it would be a long shot to see him starting but that doesn’t mean the idea was taken off the table.

D-Mac was making progress, said Reid. It was still too early to determine if McNabb will start Sunday's game against New Orleans, he added.

Kevin Kolb took snaps with the starters at practice. Reid again made clear that Kolb would make his first career start against the Saints if McNabb can't play.

Recently acquired Jeff Garcia would be Kolb's backup. He will be the No. 3 emergency quarterback if McNabb starts.

Garcia spoke about Kolb's opportunity.

"This is his opportunity to present to the rest of the league what he's all about," Garcia said. "Hopefully he takes advantage of all of that."

Holding out hope that McNabb could play might just be a strategic move by Coach Reid. By leaving the possibility that McNabb might play on the table the Saints will need to game plan for No. 5 and therefore take time away from focusing on the inexperienced Kolb.

Michael Vick, who was added to the roster Tuesday, and Garcia will share snaps running the scout team this week. Vick is not eligible to play until the following week against Kansas City.
