Martinez Not Drafted by Phils — Yet

Rumors are flying around the possibility Cy-Young winning pitcher Pedro Martinez may be taking the mound in Philadelphia.

A Dominican website is reporting that the World Champs signed the pitcher to a $4 million deal, but no official word from the team.

When asked if the team was close to inking a deal with Martinez Thursday, Phillies GM Ruben Amaro offered "no comment."

Martinez, 37, was one of the greatest pitchers of the past two decades. He went an astounding 214-99 (.684 winning percentage) with a 2.91 ERA and 3,117 strikeouts over 17 Major League seasons with four different teams.

But, he didn’t get a contract this season after going only 5-6 with an Eaton-esque 5.61 ERA in 20 games with the Mets last season.

His best pitching days are behind him, but maybe Pedro after taking a Clemens-esque rest can be a solid righty in the Phillies rotation.

Does bringing in Pedro mean that the Phillies will no longer seek Toronto Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay?

It could still happen.
