St. Joseph's University has ensured that the face of the men's basketball program will be patrolling Hawk Hill well into the next decade.
Head coach Phil Martelli has signed a four-year contract extension that will keep him at St. Joe's until 2016, according to the SJU Hawks Web site.
Martelli has become a familiar face not just on the St Joe's sideline but also on local TV programs and events.
SJU has experienced unprecedented success under the watch of Martelli.
Since taking over as the head coach before the 1995-96 season Martelli has led the Hawks to a 261-152 career record, and a 132-76 mark in Atlantic 10 Conference play.
He has made five NCAA tournament appearances including a trip to the Elite Elite in 2004 on his way to the National Coach of the Year honors.
