Mad Dog Out at Least 2 Months

Madson out of action after toe surgery

Phillies reliever Ryan Madson felt pretty stupid for breaking his big toe after kicking a chair. And now Mad Dog letting his anger get the best of him is going to cost him at least two months of action.

Madson will miss at least eight weeks after having toe surgery on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old setup man broke his right toe when he kicked a chair after blowing a save last Wednesday.

The right-hander had filled in as the team's closer in Brad Lidge's absence early this season. He was 1-0 with four saves and a 7.00 ERA in nine games.

Madson blew his second save of the year in Philadelphia's 7-6, 11-inning win over San Francisco and kicked a chair. He went on the disabled list two days later.

Originally Madson didn’t expect to go under the knife, he said. But, the injury wounded up requiring surgery.

In the meantime the Phillies will lean on Danys Baez, Jose Contreras and Chad Durbin to pick up the slack as the right-handed setup man.
