Philly Teams Go 0-Fer Tuesday

Flyers, Sixers and Phillies all lose on Tuesday night

It was a rough night for Philly sports teams Tuesday as three of the four major teams in action and all three coming up short, leaving fans disappointed.

The Flyers lost, the Sixers lost and the Phillies lost -- and by a lot in each case.

The Flyers lost to Senators 5-2 after blowing a second-period lead. Captain Mike Richards scored both goals for the Flyers, who failed to clinch the Atlantic Division title.

Sens' Jason Spezza had a goal and three assists to lead Ottawa over the slumping Flyers. Ryan Shannon and Bobby Butler each had a goal and an assist, and Nick Foligno and Milan Michalek also scored for Ottawa. Craig Andersen stopped 27 shots and Filip Kuba added two assists.

This marked the Flyers fourth straight loss and fifth in the last six. They also fell out of first place in the Eastern Conference, and now trail Washington by two points after the Capitals won at Toronto.

In a possible playoff preview the Sixers lost to the Celtics 99-82 after getting outscored by 13 in the second half. Rajon Rondo led Boston with 16 points and 13 assists, tying the C's with the Heat for the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference.

Paul Pierce scored 18 points, Kevin Garnett had 14 and Ray Allen had 13 for Boston, which is 8-8 in the past month. Nenad Krstic scored eight points in 18 minutes after missing two games with bruised right knee, and Jermaine O'Neal had nine points in 12 minutes as the Celtics try to find big men to fill in for Shaquille O'Neal.

The night was topped off by the first Phils loss of the young season.

The Phightins lost to their rival Mets 7-1 as Cole Hamels failed to make it past the third inning and Mets starter Chris Young pitched effectively into the sixth inning while adding two of his career-high three hits during a six-run third.

The four-time NL East champion Phillies failed to start 4-0 for the first time since 1915. Hamels (0-1) suffered through the second-worst start of his career, becoming the first of Philadelphia's four aces to lose this season.

David Wright tied a career-best with four hits and Young (1-0) became the first pitcher ever to get two hits in an inning for the Mets, who are off to a 3-1 start -- all on the road.
