Herb Magee Inducted Into Hall of Fame

Philadelphia University head basketball coach Herb Magee can add Hall of Famer to his already impressive resume.

The most-winning coach in college basketball history was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Friday night.

For the longtime Philly U. coach who happens to be the all-time, all-division NCAA wins leader with 922 career victories, this is heady territory. He only got into coaching only after turning down an offer to work for a chemical company.

Former St. Joe's coach and hall of famer Jack Ramsay introduced Herb to the podium. Herb remained gracious and humble during his speech.

"I said to somebody 'now this is really the Hall of Fame? Where Paul Arizin is? Where Wilt Chamberlain is? And Tom Gola?' And they said, 'yeah that's it Herb.' And I said 'it's hard to believe, it's just hard to believe.' And for me to stand up here with Jack Ramsay as my presenter is truly one of the great honors I've had in my life."

Former NBA All-Stars Dennis Rodman and Chris Mullin headlined the 2011 HOF class. They were joined by coaching legends Tex Winter, innovator of the "Triangle" offense, and Stanford's Tara VanDerveer and longtime NBA and ABA star Artis Gilmore; former Portland TrailBlazers center Arvydas Sabonis; Olympic gold medalist Teresa Edwards; Harlem Globetrotter Reece "Goose" Tatum; and Boston Celtic Tom "Satch" Sanders.
