Doc Does Enough as Phils Sweep Away Fish

Halladay wins 19th game in 10-5 Phillies victory

Roy Halladay didn’t have his best stuff Wednesday night but that didn’t stop him from becoming the first National League pitcher to win 19 games.

Doc spread 10 hits and three runs over six innings as the Phillies swept the Marlins with a 10-5 win in Florida. Halladay (19-10) added nine strikeouts to put him back in the K lead in the NL.

The win, combined with Atlanta's 4-2 loss to Washington, gave the two-time defending NL champions their largest division lead since May 25. Philadelphia trailed the Braves by seven games on July 21, and has gone 38-15 since.

Shane Victorino, Raul Ibanez, Carlos Ruiz and Wilson Valdez all had multiple hits as the Phillies put up 14 hits on Florida pitching.

Marlins starter Jorge Sosa only lasted 2 1/3 innings giving up six hits, three walks and five earned runs.

Not all was peachy for Phillies pitching. Closer Brad Lidge loaded the bases in a non-save situation. Jose Contreras -- who relieved an ineffective Lidge -- escaped the bases-loaded, one-out jam for his fourth save in five chances.

The Phillies now have a day off before opening a nine-game home stand Friday at Citizens Bank Park.
