Halladay Chalks 1st Shutout as a Phillie

The newest Phillies pitcher becomes baseball's first 4-0 pitcher this season

Roy Halladay threw another masterpiece of a game as he baffled the Braves hitters and led the Phillies to a 2-0 win Wednesday night. The complete game shutout kept Halladay’s season perfect as he became baseball’s first 4-0 pitcher.

Halladay made sure the bullpen could not lose the game tonight. He gave up five hits and struck out seven while only walking one.

The defense behind Doc was magnificent the whole night, robbing the Braves of some sure hits. Shane Victorino robbed Troy Glaus in the second inning as he climbed the center field wall to make a spectacular catch.

Chase Utley made the biggest play of the game in the seventh inning when he dove to gobble up a Yunel Escobar grounder and turn an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded.

The Phillies bats provided just enough offense to get the win as Tim Hudson pitched well for Atlanta.

Raul Ibanez got the Phils on the board first in the second inning when he hit a ground-rule double to score Jayson Werth. Werth also picked up an RBI of his own in the sixth inning with a double that scored Ryan Howard.

Halladay provided the third straight great starting pitching performance for the Phils but this time they were able to pick up the win. Cole Hamels and Kyle Kendrick were both robbed of victories after throwing gems in the Phillies past two games.

The only bad news Wednesday night was Placido Polanco had to leave the game after being hit on the elbow by a pitch.

The Phillies try to take the series tomorrow night as Jamie Moyer (1-1) takes the mound against Derek Lowe (3-0).
